Dust Collection Ductwork

author-gravatar Sean Mar 04, 2015

This winter I took on the task of upgrading my dust collection system. The system I had before wasn't quite strong enough for my needs so I ended up purchasing the Grizzly G0548ZP 2HP Canister Dust Collector. This unit allowed me to then upgrade my ductwork to a 6" main line, tapering down to 4" laterals to run to the tools.

After getting everything installed, I am quite pleased with the performance of this unit. As for the ductwork, I went with Penn State Industries 6 inch premium heavy duty spiral pipe for the main line, premium 6 x 6 x 4 laterals and an 6 x 4 x 4 premium wye on the end for my jointer and planer. Connected to the laterals and wye are 4 inch self cleaning aluminum blast gates. In my previous setup I used cheap 4 inch plastic gates and find the self cleaning ones much nicer and i'm sure will last much longer.
