Live Edge Walnut Bench
An entry way bench made from a live edge piece of walnut.

Here is what the top of the bench looked like before the router sled. This was an old slab I got out of a barn. Wasn't sure what I was going to do with it based on it's condition, but decided it was already a good size for an entryway bench for the house.

Halfway through cleaning the bottom. Couldn't believe how nice it was underneath for sitting in a barn for 40+ years.

With how bulky the slab was, I didn't want to just do 4 square legs on it. Instead I went trapezoid shaped legs made of kiln dried 2x4s.

Seeing how the legs and top looked together. I had originally had this side as the top but after both sides were cleaned I decided to switch them.

After the first coat of danish oil.

You could still see a lot of grain through the primer so just watered down some wood filler until the legs were just about perfectly smooth.

Legs after metallic spray paint. Close enough for me at a fraction of the cost.

Resting the top on the legs. Still need to bolt them on.

Another view of the finished product. The bench after bolting the legs on, 5 coats of poly, and one quick wax coat.
