I wanted to build a nice lego table for my niece and nephew, so I hit the web to get some inspiration. I found a table that I really liked for sale at toys-r-us, so I decided to print a few pictures, buy some lego base plates and see what I could come up with. I could have purchased the table from toys-r-us but I know I can build a higher quality, better looking version than the one for sale. I made the lego table out of some cherry lumber and applied a water based urethane for the top coat.

When picking the finish, I wanted something that would enhance the cherry, so I settled on Enduro-Var from General Finishes. They claim that it adds some amber to the wood, giving it the same warm feeling of an oil based finish. After applying 4 coats, I agree. It's an excellent finish and I will be using it again.

For the joinery, I used traditional mortise and tenons, with the tenons being 3/8" thick. I cut the mortises first at the router table and the fit the tenons last using my dado stack at the table saw. I used this joinery method for both the top frame and the bottom base.

And finally, I use liquid nails to attach the lego base plates to the removable table top. This was a fun project and I can't wait to deliver it to my niece and nephew. They will love it!

Final Dimensions:
Length: 24 1/8"
Width: 24 1/8"
Height: 19"

Hi Sean, I noticed you have a number of collections on your profile to organize your different projects. I would like to create some of my own to help organize my own projects. How would I go about this?

Great table btw!

When you visit a project page,  click the button in the sidebar that says "+ Collection". It will ask you to create a new collection or add it to an existing collection. BTW, I really appreciate you sharing your projects! Please email me if you need anymore help. sean at simplecove.com

Thank you! You are correct in that there's no storage. With the kids having little chairs that go under it, there's really not any room.
