A Box Of Oak And Maple

author-gravatar tmbridge Jul 28, 2016

This was the first box I made after getting into woodworking.  All mitered corners with keys/splines in the lid's corners.  The sides and lid frame are oak while the floating panel in the lid and the bottom are both maple.

I resawed the maple on my table saw -- the first time I ever tried resawing -- and glued the pieces into 2 panels.  They are floating in grooves in both the top frame and the sides.

I had a serious mishap during this build in that I (stupidly and inadvertently) fed one of the lid's frame side pieces into my router table's round over bit fromo _behind_ the bit and from _left to right_!  The piece was immediately pulled out of my hand, got chewed up by the bit, and flung into the wall across the garage.  I learned my lesson that day.
