Box 23
This is my remake of Matt's box 23.
Here's a strip of wood that I cut off a rotten piece of mahogany.
I scribe lines for the rabbets.
I cut the rabbets.
I cut the miters in a miter box
The mitered edge is shot in a long edge miter shooting board. But I forgot to take a picture.
I tape up the sides to help glue up.
I just made Mike Pekovich's shooting board. Here I am setting it up to fit the lid and bottom of the box.
The top and bottom are soft maple.
The little end grain shavings.
I didn't turn the lid pull, since I don't have a lathe. I cut an elongated diamond shape and smoothed it out with sandpaper. The pull is made from poplar. The pull attached with a through tenon, which you can see sticking out the bottom. The tenon trimmed flush.
Lightly sanded.
Finished it with some shellac.
