I got the bed lift hardware from rockler. The side panels are 4/4 walnut, glued to plywood to fit inside the existing frame. The boards are held together with corner braces screwed into threaded inserts and standard bed hardware.
The hydraulics work great. You lift the bed a few inches and it glides up the rest of the way on its own. Pull it down and it sits closed just fine.
The whole thing added a ton of storage space and wasn't really all that difficult. The hardest part was making eveything work with the existing bed.
Modern look, I like it.
