Shaker entryway table

author-gravatar miketulchinsky Sep 03, 2019

Shaker style entryway table. All pieces were milled to have the straightest grain possible from the material I had.  Rift sawn tapered legs. Mortise and tenon joinery. Half blind dovetail drawer. Quarter sawn glue-up top and drawer front. Front rails cut from the same piece as the drawer front for grain continuity.  Turned drawer pull. Cherry with poplar.  Finished with shellac.

Great job on the table, Mike! It's beautiful. I really enjoy the straight grain on all of the pieces. I really like rift/qtr sawn cherry.

How did the half blind dovetails go? They look great. I've got a couple of drawers coming up that will have half blind and I always dread it haha. They take me so long to do.

Thank you very much Sean.  The dovetails went very well and I am really happy with the result but they took me a looong time.  These are joints number 3 and 4 ever for me.  I’ve cut some through dovetails but had no experience with half blinds before this project. I did two practice joints with scrap of the same size materials and then just went for it.  I really wanted to use this particular piece for the drawer front and I did everything at normal speed except for the paring where I went very slowly and checked the fit a lot.

It paid off. The joints look very tight and the drawer front has beautiful figure. Good job!
