Dovetail Alignment Board

author-gravatar harrison17 Oct 21, 2019

This is modeled after the David Barron dovetail alignment board.  It's purpose is to keep your boards being dovetailed aligned while you're transferring your cut lines from one board to the other.  It's made with quartersawn white oak because you want it stable, and walnut for the fence with a little lamb's tongue thrown in for fun.  He has a video on his Youtube channel demonstrating the purpose and how to make it.

Start with dimensioning the quartersawn white oak

All of the tools that I typically use for dovetails, maybe not all of them every time, but I keep them close.  Trying out a different mallet and a Japanese saw this time around.

I prefer to use a square and marking knife for my baselines

Doesn't everyone use an old iron for this?  This method leaves room for error, hence the guide

That's a nice looking alignment board! I went years without one and now that I have one I wish I would have made one earlier. Super handy and makes the dovetailing process so much faster and more accurate. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Sean.  It was a fun little project to do.  Now I just need to put it to use!
