Cherry Blanket Chest
My son needed a way to store his extensive costume collection. My wife greenlit a blanket chest, and I built it. It's basically just a huge dovetailed box. They're mostly through-dovetails, but I used some half-blinds to hide the grooves that hold the bottom. There's a floating pine panel for the bottom. The lid is a solid cherry panel with white oak battens to keep it flat.
I used a combination of hand and power tools. I don't have a jointer, so I jointed everything with a jack plane. I then thicknessed my stock with a planer, and glued up panels. Dovetails were cut by hand. I planed, scraped, and sanded. I finished it with some wipe-on poly.
