This is "Quiet Time" and it is my take on a contemplation bench. It is meant to be a simple and comfortable bench that holds a single person. Find a calming location for it and drift away.

The seat and legs are Ambrosia Maple. The shelf and stretcher are Walnut. The wedges are Redheart. The seat has a scooped top with eased over front and back edges for a contoured and comfortable sitting position. There is space in each side for a beverage or light snack. The ends of the seat are cut at a slight angle to make for easier lifting. The legs are attached with sliding dovetails. The stretcher and shelf are curved to match the seat and feet. The stretcher ties into the legs using a tusked mortise and tenon. The shelf cradles your favorite books. The beauty of these joints is they allow this bench to be built with no glue.
