I liked the spalting visible here.

But Mr Maple wanted to break itself up whilst spinning fast-ish.

I foiled the little bastard with some glue. The rim is about 1/8" thick and I hold that for about 2/3s of the way down the side. I could not get the inside thinner as I approached the bottom. So things I need to work on....
