Yet Another Cutting Board (Walnut, Maple, Padouk)
I made this edge grain cutting board for my Christmas for my new brother-in-law. Every time he comes over, he compliments our cutting boards that I made so I decided to make him his own for the holiday.
It’s made from Walnut, Maple, and a strip of Padouk. I hand chamfered the edges and routed handles on the sides.
I screwed up while routing the handles and made a huge gouge in the side of the piece. To fix this, I squared up the accidental cut with chisels and cut a patch piece that matched the grain pretty well out of some spare walnut scrap. I used CA glue to affix it in place and a flush trim saw to level it up with the rest of the board’s faces. I then used wood filler to fill in any gaps and sanded. You can see a bit of the patch in the closest corner in the pictures.
Sanded from 6-220 then 400 and finished with mineral oil and beeswax.
I love the wood combination. Everyone needs a nice cutting board.
I also use the howards finish. Its a good product.
