Scrap Wood Challenge- Step Stool
This is for the reddit /r/woodworking Scrap wood challenge. My wife said we needed a step stool so our toddler could brush his own teeth at the sink. A month later, here we are. Wood used include but are not limited to: Walnut, maple, cherry, oak, poplar, and pine. All are cut-offs/scrap from previous projects.
Box o' scraps
These'll do.
After the planer did the hard work for me.
These 2x6 scraps look like legs.
20 degree tenons. Tricky.
That'll do.
Mortises marked.
Mortises drilled with Forstner.
The fun part.
That looks about right.
Wife says, "it's kind of plain. Can you make the legs more decorative?" Sure honey.
At this point I realize the whole thing is kind of wobbly because the 11x9 top is supported by 2x6 legs. 2x9 legs would be ideal. So we grab some poplar from the corner, and cut it to 2x9.
Double stacked for a little more height.
Here are our modified 2x9 feet.
It's good to have sharp chisels.
Because I don't feel like cutting another M&T in the legs, I'll drill a hole and shove this dowel through it.
Cutting a wedge.
It all fits together nice and snug. Time to glue!
