Krenov-Style Smoother Out Of White Oak
I downloaded Scott Meek's plane making DVD a while ago and finally had a free weekend to give this a go. The plane is built from 4/4 QS white oak. The plane blade is from Lee Valley unfortunately it's the shorter version. Next time I will go with the longer option.
Finished project first, right?
I'm not done shaping it yet, but I want to leave it like this for now, use the plane for a while and make adjustments to it over time
I tried to keep that mouth opening as tight as possible. It's almost comical how often I stopped to check if the blade protruded when I filed the mouth opening. That was the step that required the most patience but I'm happy with the result
I don't have a ton of build pictures, partially because I don't want to bore you and because I don't want to share all of Scott's steps. Go buy his DVD - it's money well spent
All glued up and wedge in place. And she even takes a shaving
Whoopsies
Rough cut on the bandsaw (once the new blade was installed)
First shaving after I rough cutting to shape
I can live with shavings like this
