Simple 2x4 Railing
We made a simple railing out of 2x4s to keep our dog from being bad.

Simple 2x4 Railing
Sketchup File
Here is a larger version of the railing we used at the top of our stairwell
Sketchup file of the build.
Miter saw with a stop block makes cutting your boards to length consistently very easy.
Here is all of the rough cut lumber.
Use a 3/8" round over on your spindles to make them look/feel nice.
Lots of pocket holes here.
When assembling your pieces having a spacer block for the bottom of the railing helps, oh yea and clamps too.
Here is the frame all assembled. It is time to put a 3/8" round over on the top railing and sand it all down.
Start installing the spindles by measuring the center of your board and then use a spacer to go out from either side. This will ensure you have equal spacing when you get to the ends.
Close up of the spacer block. I am using a 5" spacer here. You should check your building code for the proper spacing.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
