River Table From Firewood
This is my take at a (dollhouse size) river table for the firewood challenge at r/woodworking.
I will also post a video on my YouTube channel around April 20th, 2018.
Starting with firewood ...
... from yellow plum that is smaller than my hand.
I cut it on the bandsaw ...
... in small "boards".
The wood is sanded smooth on the belt sander ...
... or jointed if the piece is still thick enough.
I trace the table outline from another dollhouse table ..
... and cut it on the bandsaw ...
... and with a handsaw.
The sides are planed smooth.
The live edge is transferred to a glass offcut ...
... cut to shape ...
... and sanded smooth.
Glass shape is transferred to a thin, ...
...and then to a thicker piece of ply.
Using a 17mm bushing and a 5mm router bit a negative form is created ...
... to then cut out the positive form with a 30mm bushing and a 8mm bit ...
... in the thickness of a piece glass.
The final cutout ...
... is not wide enough (wrong bit?!?) ...
... so that the table ends up being a bit wider than planned.
On the bandsaw I rip thinner stock ...
... that is crosscut with a handsaw ...
... marked ...
... and cut for a half lap joint.
The joints are paired with a chisel ...
... and glued together.
Everything gets a coat of spray lacquer ...
... and is assembled with superglue.
The finished product.
Matt Kenney would be proud! ;)
Thank you! :-)
