Live Oak dining table

author-gravatar StageOne Aug 01, 2019

This table was crafted from live oak trees that were harvested from the owners property nearly 5 years ago.  It features book matched slabs and a trestle base.  The trestle pins are chef’s knives to pay homage to the owner who is a prominent local chef.  #woodwork #woodworking  #handcrafted #furniture #table

Holy crap, that grain is just something else! Looks amazing!

Beautiful! Is that through tenon the only thing that connects the legs together? My concern would be moving the table and the legs separating too much and cracking at the connection point.

Looks like there are aprons at the top too.

Thank you!  The apron is actually integrated with the two ends via half lap joints and 3” screws.  The top is fastened with lags from underneath through slotted openings to allow for movement.  Live oak, at least this particular tree, has a density close to some stones.  Therefore everything about the design was based on structural integrity.

the wow factor is off the scale on this table, be very proud of what you made and thanks for the under shot of the table support, it is amazing.  Your customer must be walking on cloud 9 when he saw it for the first time.

Wow.  Thank you for the compliments!  My client and his family were very happy.  As was I.  This project took nearly 5 years from phone call to delivery so we were both heavily invested in it.  A benchmark for me.
