Cherry and Walnut Box
This is a project I started and it ended up being left unfinished for a couple years. The bug finally hit me to finish it and I’m really happy with the end result even if it took 3 years to complete. It was fun looking back at how my skill have progressed and things I might have done differently had I built the box from scratch now.

Here is a shot of the bottom. Showing the proud base of the box that gives the neat shadow line and floating appearance.

Love the color of this box. What finish did you use to get such an awesome deep rich color on both species?
Great design really nice box! What are the dimensions. I'll guess BLO for the finish. Are there felt "feet" on the bottom?
I used Watco Danish Oil. I had never used it before and I wanted to try something a little different. It defiantly darkens up the wood. I think also letting the cherry age for a few years helped to darken it.
@Sean said:The box is 11x6x3. BLO is a close guess. I went with Danish oil and wax on this one. It was a first for me. For the there are no felt feet. I made the rabbet deeper to make the base of the box sit proud of the box sides. This elevates the box about an 1/8” giving a cool shadow line. Ill see if I can add a picture to the project to show you what I mean. Thanks for the positive feedback.

The Walnut and Cherry work so well together.
Thank you! I really do like those two species together.
