2x4 project
its a nightstand i built out of a 2x4 for reddit woodworking.

finished pics first

this photographs pretty well

my terrible attempt to make a Foureyes inspired nightstand

in profile about 27 inches tall

Getting the 2X4 in a pandemic in the rain

Nice kiln dried !

got 2 incase i mess up

Cody dog approved

started by ripping of resawing the length of the 2x4. to make a panel. This is 3 sections of 2x4 glued up the first 2 are book matched

then i used a jig saw to start cutting legs. i got two out of the width of a 2x4

saving scraps

trying to figure out leg angle

that panel though !

all mitered ! tried to keep the wrap around grain

scraps after the mitre

other legs from 2x4 width

bleh maths !

here are my working parts. legs are 3 pieces front back and what i called Gussets

basically i wanted to join the 3 pieces. dowel the legs together and then biscuit joint the legs to the gussets

HF doweling jig is just a little off, but so am i

leg glue up with dowels

just a beauty shot of a new plane on the box top

i left one part of the leg long because i didn't trust my measurements

cut off the long leg after i was sure and glued it into the legs to make an A frame ! just glue no dowels

attached the gusset with a frame legs. looks like the Atlanta braves logo. Go Dodgers

lots of glue and lots of sanding

had to see it dry fit

before and after stain. legs are Kona it looks like tiki bar furniture

that box though

thought about mounting the legs lower put it was too unstable

joined the box to the completed legs with 3/4 inch dowels . I should have just glued the legs on for stability

there it is with all the scraps

after staining and the final assembly i rubbed it down with danish oil

minus the saw dust of course

some of my hand drawn notes on this
