Turned Articulating Lamp

author-gravatar natecrilly Jun 15, 2020

I have been interested in lighting projects and lamps for quite some time and have finally started working through some of my ideas. I like to push myself a little outside my comfort zone with each project, as well as try to do something different or something that I haven't seen before. I have seen plenty of articulating lamps made from wood, but never one that was turned on a lathe. This project posed a lot of fun challenges to overcome, both during the design process, as well as the build phase. The lamp is made from curly ash and the addition of the modern style LED Edison bulb, cloth covered wire, and vintage fittings, give it a really fun and modern look that is also still sophisticated, in my opinion. The lamp lives in my son's room. He is only 3, but I'm pretty sure he thinks it's awesome! You can watch the build video below to see how I tackled the turned bridle joints that allow the lamp to articulate. Also, check out my Instagram page for more photos of the build process. I will also include a link below to a post about the specialized table saw jig I built for this project.
