Trout Landing Net
I started making landing nets a few years ago after reading and article in Wood Magazine, since then I have switched from cold lamination to using a custom built steam box. I seem to always end up making a few landing nets for friends and family, and occasionally sell a few but never get around to making one for myself. However, a little over a year ago we lost a huge 100+ year old Red Oak Tree and I just couldn't talk myself into cutting it all up into firewood, and decided to see if I could use some of it to build a net. The handle is made from a piece of the trunk that was quarter sawn, and the hoop is made from a branch that has some spalting showing.
