My Sons Birdhouse
My son and me made a birdhouse as a birthday present for my mother. My son is three years old, and got a little tool box, with real tools, from my parents for Christmas. The toolbox included plans for a birdhouse, so we decided to make a birdhouse for my mothers 70th birthday.

The finished birdhouse.

It has found a place outside my parents house.

It looks pretty good now. We waited for a while, hoping that a bird would move in, but non came.

The project started with a lot of measuring.

These were the first real tools that my son got. He was allowed to use them on the condition that he listened to what I said. It worked really well, he was careful and actually listened and did as a said.

Measure twice is not enough. Ten to fifteen times is more like it.

Laying out the pieces for some more measuring and marking.

We brought out the little drill press for the entrance hole.

I had made a small bench for him earlier, I also use it as a saw bench. He liked to stand and work there as I was doing some of my projects.

Unorthodox sawing position. He started all cuts, but asked me to finish the cuts when he grew tired after sawing a little while.

The assembly has started. It is a lot of fun to bang on the nails.

Every tool needs to be sharp! Here we have started with the back, and the pencil needed a lot of sharpening if we were going to mark the width properly.

Cutting off the extra width from the back.

He did not really do any planing on his own, I always hold the plane with him, I just thought it would be a fun picture to take.

Drilling holes for the nails is almost as fun as sharpening pencils.

Here it is assembled.

BLO for some weather protection.

My wife helped with the number.
