Laminated Veneer Cooking Spatula And Tongs

author-gravatar cwesping Jul 22, 2015

Tried my hand at some veneer lamination to achieve bent shapes. I used walnut and walnut veneer for the body and some padouk veneer to give a nice contrast to the walnut.
I used some scrap as a mold for the curved shapes. The strips of veneer were covered with regular wood glue and then pressed to shape with packaging bands.
For the spatula I glued one sheet of veneer in 90 degree grain direction for added rigidity.
Finally everything was finished with butcher block oil to keep everything food safe.
