Cherry and Sapele End/Occasional Tables
My wife asked me to make a couple of tables for our front door which "needed" something. So I made these matched pair of Sapele and Cherry occasional tables. I modeled them off of a Stickley piece I had commissioned around 15 years ago. They came out great! Originally they were to be 100% Sapele but the piece I got had so much twist to it I was unable to salvage enough wood for the tops. I had a previous sub-woofer project that never materialized that I was able to re-purpose the panels I had glued up so I used them. I finished this with a Danish clear oil and am very happy with that. I probably should have used a darker tinted oil for the top since it is a bit splotchy.
I have 2 nice solid brass bail style handles on order for the drawers hopefully get them soon!
Note in one of the pictures my 5 minute homemade tapering jig, 2 pan head screws and 5 minutes and I have a well-functioning, adjustable tapering jig. No need to spend $150 for one!
