Wfc 2013 Kids Easel
This is the Woodworkers Fighting Cancer 2013 project build; a kids art easel. My build doesn't deviate from the plans much besides using slightly thicker wood for the trays. I don't have a thickness planer so the wood was resawn and hand planed to thickness. The easel is all hard maple with plywood bottoms for the trays and an oak dowel for the paper roll.

Really messy half-laps. I tried to hand saw one but had poor luck so I used the depth stop on my sliding miter saw which was (as I guessed) a bad idea.

The rabbets for the tray fronts seemed weak so I put two 1/4 inch dowels through the sides to help them stay on when a kid pulls on them.
