Finish Prep, Hinge Mortises and Pre-Finishing

In this video, I start by hand planing all the surfaces with a smoothing plane. During this process, I notice a couple defects in the wood that need to be taken care of. First is a small dent in one of the side pieces.
I show how to take care of the using water and and an iron. Second is a small know that while still in the wood, is very loose. I then demonstrate how to stabilize the knot using epoxy and dye. Then show how to flatten the epoxy fill with a chisel and card scraper.
I further prepare the pieces by masking off surfaces that will be glued from the finish. Then it's on to applying several coats of shellac.

Another awesome video, Guy. I like your methods for applying shellac and will be giving it a try the next time I use shellac. Keep em' coming!
Nicely done Guy! The finishing is so simple yet beautiful! This is something I need to practice more. Thanks for an awesome video!
Thanks Sean! I have been doing it this way a long time, and it works well for me.
@Sean said:Thanks Donny! Finishing is one of the most important parts of a project. Learn all you can and practice on scraps of wood. There is a lot of good info out there!

Hey Steve! I have 3 different ones I use, and have found that they help tremendously. I love that little Narex one I have. I need to also get the left handed one.
