Unusual Orb Chair Build
This may possibly be the most unusual chair you may ever see.

The Orb Chair is based on a 400mm or 15.7 inch radius circle and the 80 ribs are all traced from the same template. To align all the ribs in a circle I used a jig called the "orb flag" which took all the guesswork out of maintaining the orb shape. This extremely unusual chair design took three months to make and set a new level of complexity when it comes to making furniture with one arm. Made from 130 pieces of timber using New Guinea Rosewood and Australian Red Cedar. The wedges between the ribs are all custom fitted and include a double bevel shape. It took 6 days to shape and glue them in place.
The chair isn't for sale and I'm pretty certain I wouldn't make another one, so it will be added to my furniture collection at home. That said, I love seeing it in my lounge room every day and I think it has improved my chess game.
