Rattle
Baby rattle

One each, rattle, baby
Finish is bee's wax. Would have used a wax / mineral oil mix but do not have any mineral oil. So I warmed the wax up in the microwave (don't tell the wife) and then used it like a friction polish. Turned out nice enough, the granddaughter can't tell and seems to like it so that is good enough.

Raw material, chunk of maple, two pieces of walnut. Stuff has been sitting in the garage for about a year, it is not completely dry but is pretty close.

Round-ish and en-hole-enated top and bottom, ready for rattle-making-sound material.

Just add BBs.

Clamps? Who needs em'! Used the lathe to press the pieces together while glue dried. Used TBII, seems to have worked pretty well.

Getting close.

And closer still.

And at about this point I started thinking about how I would separate the middle from the ends.... Ended up turning the ends down to about as small as I could and then chopping the ends off with a chisel. Sanding and finishing the ends was not as much fun as making the rattle.
