Cherry And Maple Wooden Coasters
This was a fun little project that I did over the weekend. I used some cherry and curly maple for these coasters. The final dimension of the coasters are 3 3/4 inches squared.

These coasters are made out of cherry and curly maple. The boards I started with were 16 inches long, 4 inches wide and 3/8 inches thick. The final size of the coasters are 3 3/4 inches squared.

Big strips are 1 1/2 inches wide. The small strips are 1/4 inch wide.

Glue up time.

I use my crosscut sled and a stop block to cut them to 3 3/4 inches.

A 2 3/4 inch forstner bit was used to make the cork holes.

Here I am gluing the cork to the bottom of the coasters using regular wood glue.

I put yellow tape in the holes while I sprayed 3 coats of a semi-gloss deft lacquer

Final step was to glue the cork in the top holes using regular wood glue.
Them are some nice coasters.
The coaster on my desk is an unfinished piece of walnut scrap. Way to make my coaster feel inadequate... How did you cut the cork for the circles?
LOL sorry! To cut circles in soft material, I use this little tool: http://www.amazon.com/Olfa-1057028-Rotary-Circle-Cutter/dp/B001CEAMCY/ref=pd_sbs_201_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1K635REB2ERVEAFNJYZN It's very handy and I use it all the time in little craft projects.
